Last week, I had the pleasure of meeting members of Walsall Council, including Marianna Solodcaia, and two very knowledgeable curators, Lily and Saqlain at the Swords into Ploughshares: Knives into Jewels exhibition held at Walsall Central Library, Lichfield Street Hub.
This incredible exhibition about knife crime and it’s effects on communities is a social intervention project developed by Norman Cherry and Dauvit Alexander. The exhibits are all jewellery and metalwork made by a range of international artists, refashioning, repurposing, adapting or otherwise transforming knives which had been surrendered to UK Police. It will be on display until 28th September 2024 and is supported by partners including Walsall Council, The James Brindley Foundation and Walsall Community Network.
If you haven’t already seen these incredible works of art, head down to see it before it moves onto another venue. A must see for all ages and so relevant within all communities at this time. A huge thank you to everyone involved.
