This is what it can look like when organisations come together to throw a get together for groups in the community.
On 30th October, Creative Black Country supported Brownhills Community Centre to put on an afternoon of light entertainment for our isolated elderly residents who use Manor Farm, Bloxwich and Willenhall Community Centres.
The afternoon was packed with entertainment provided by live music performed by members of Common Folk, an incredible selection of food courtesy of Sophie Hollowood and volunteer photographers John and Roy on hand to take pictures of the fun.
Aswell as bringing local residents together, the afternoon was also a celebration of Brownhill’s favourite caretaker, Bill Heath, as he retires from his post at Brownhills Community Centre after 16 years. Not one for the limelight, it was an opportunity we couldn’t miss to say a massive thank you to him for all his hard work and commitment to fixing anything and everything at the centre over the years! Having been a familiar face and presence around the centre for so long, there were many people who wanted to say a farewell and thanks to Bill before he swapped the toolbelt for slippers as he starts a well-deserved rest during retirement.
Guests were invited to get involved in conversations with people they might not normally have the chance to chat with as they sat round the large round tables and enjoyed company and cakes a plenty. Laughter could be heard as stories shared, forgotten memories remembered, and new friends made.
Accessible transport, provided by Walsall Community Transport, ensured lesser mobile guests were able to attend the community event; service user Ann being one of many guests that commented how much she had enjoyed the afternoon to Making Connections project worker, Karen.
A huge “Thank You” to all the community volunteers, staff and directors involved and to Creative Black Country for a truly lovely afternoon.
Here’s to another get together and community celebration very soon in the future!
